About This Site

In 1953 my Mother took me to see the movie "Lili" and we both fell madly in love with Mel Ferrer that day. On every birthday as I was growing up my parents would rent the film and my Mother and I would revisit those sweet and innocent emotions he'd stirred in us that memorable afternoon.

Over the years I loosely followed Mr. Ferrer's career - always reading news with interest as I found it, but not actively pursuing it. My mother and I were so pleased when he married Audrey Hepburn. We both viewed them as acting royalty, a cut above other Hollywood pairings - glamorous, distinguished, refined, talented, intelligent and classy. For me, Mel Ferrer will always be an integral part of the Audrey Hepburn style and mystique.

Decades later, after a career in and out of the dance world and with both my parents gone, I sat down to watch "Lili" again late one night on television. I wasn't surprised to have those ancient romantic feelings rekindled, but I was rather amazed to discover that it was the inherent natural line and innate elegance of Mel Ferrer that had been the great dance influence on my life, not the coltish soubrette of Leslie Caron. And so, I started to view the man differently. I wanted to know more.  I began to read, order videos and bid for photos on eBay.

Much has been written about Mel Ferrer, but the information is scattered and mostly attached to the biographies of other people. A seed of discontent was planted and I began to speculate on a place devoted exclusively to him, a nurturing spot where information could be gathered on him alone. The seed started to sprout and this site began to emerge.

This is a fan site, a place to honor Mel Ferrer impartially but generously as well. Because his memories of Audrey Hepburn have always shown enormous respect and continued affection, this site will honor that as well.

Addenda:

Sadly, Mel Ferrer passed away on Monday June 2nd, 2008 at the age of 90. A link that brings personal insight into his final months is the recollection of Army Archerd in his column of June 4, 2008. It is called Mel Ferrer Recalled Here.

Feel free to contact me about anything pertaining to Mel Ferrer or this site.
