Lisa Soukhotine / 5th wife

Elizabeth Soukhotine (known as Lisa) was Mel Ferrer's 5th and final wife. Born in Belgium, her father was a Russian émigré whose parents fled Russia during the Bolshevik Revolution. She was living in London and an editor of children's books when she met her future husband. Their wedding took place in London on February 18, 1971 - about two years after Mel's divorce from Audrey Hepburn was finalized. The marriage proved to be his most successful and continued until his death in Santa Barbara on June 2, 2008. These photos are a tribute to their union and are being added to the site on what would have been their 38th wedding anniversary.

The photos above and below were taken at Mel and Lisa's wedding at Caxton Hall in London on February 18, 1971. Mel's son Sean is in attendance. Years later Sean noted that Lisa liked to think of herself as his "second mother" rather than his stepmother.
After the wedding, Lisa and Mel honeymooned in Switzerland, where Mel also had a home in order to be near Sean.
All three of these photos were taken in 1971, shortly after the pair wed. The left picture shows them in the audience at an unidentified performance in London shortly after their honeymoon; the other two photos were taken at The Cannes Film Festival in May.
The three photos on the left were taken in 1973 in Spain when Lisa accompanied Mel on a promotional tour for one of his films. They had a home in Marbella, Spain at the time. The photo on the right was taken in the late 1970s while Mel was on location in Africa.
The Ferrers are shown at home in Los Angeles in 1984 during an interview Mel gave People Magazine, and in Switzerland in January 1993 as they attended Audrey Hepburn's funeral.
