La Jolla Playhouse / Ring Around the Moon

Screen Guide did a feature on the La Jolla Playhouse in 1951, following Mel around as he prepared for the first performance of "Ring Around the Moon", which premiered on July 3rd and opened the 1951 season. In addition to Mel's usual role of producer he was also appearing as actor that night - playing twins! His two co-stars were Diana Lynn and Neva Patterson, and the play also featured Florence Bates, Mary Forbes and John Wengraf with James Nielsen as director. Both Mel and Gregory Peck made it a point to be on hand for premieres, and co-producer Peck was able to arrive in good time for the evening's performance.
