Audrey Hepburn's Funeral

Mel Ferrer was visibly emotional as he attended the funeral of his fourth and most famous wife, Audrey Hepburn. The victim of colon cancer, Ms. Hepburn's premature passing came on Wednesday January 20, 1993, at her home in Tolochenoz, Switzerland, La Plaisance, which had also been Ferrer's home for the last two years of their marriage. He is shown on the right above leaving the chapel after the service accompanied by his wife of 22 years, Lisa. The other three photos were taken graveside.

Only 120 close friends and family attended the private ceremony, which was conducted by the same minister who'd married Mel Ferrer to Audrey Hepburn in 1954. When reporters approached the clearly shaken Ferrer he responded, "I can't speak today."
