Mel Ferrer's 38th birthday occurred in Italy during the filming of the epic movie "War and Peace" in which he was starring with good friend Henry Fonda and opposite his wife, Audrey Hepburn. His new bride organized a big celebration that took place on the set of the movie, and in the photo on the right Mel (still in costume) can be seen helping to bring in the big cake, which was white with chocolate frosting to suit the groom's decided taste. In the photo on the left, the whole company watches as a technician from the film cuts the first piece; glasses for wine and champagne can also be seen.
