Trip to Holland
to raise money for Dutch veterans

Two months after Audrey Hepburn and Mel Ferrer married he accompanied his young bride on a trip to Holland to help her raise funds in aid of Dutch veterans of World War II. It was Audrey's first time back inside the country where she'd lived during the war, troubled years of severe deprivation while Holland was under German occupation. The goodwill trip was widely publicized, and the newlyweds were greeted with enthusiasm wherever they appeared.
