Charles Pratt, the president of Bing Crosby Productions, hosted a party / reception for star Twiggy and producer Mel Ferrer when they first came to Los Angeles to begin filming the suspense film, "W". The following report was published in Dorothy Manners' syndicated column on April 26, 1973:
Parties have been big all week. At the cocktail "do" hosted by Charles Pratt, president of Bing Crosby Productions, welcoming Twiggy and old pal Mel Ferrer, to Hollywood where they'll make "W", the guests found themselves in a bit of a bind. They are keeping the plot of "W" a big fat secret. Mel Ferrer confirmed the set will be closed during filming. But the press wouldn't let them off the hook.
When Twiggy, looking modish in a long skirt and silver jacket, was asked what type character she plays she started, "Well I play a girl" to which Mel yelled, "That's enough!"
Mel's charming wife Lisa said she was puzzled by one particular American custom. "In Europe, women seldom shake hands when introduced. What does one do when a woman extends her hand?"
"You'd better shake it," advised her husband.
